Everyone’s afraid of something: of the dark, of heights or of losing a loved one. In the case of Tiklis the squirrel and Kirnis the raven – best friends who love sleepovers – it’s the fear of heading out to find a lost ball all on their own. After all, waiting outside is the Fear Monster! As they journey out, they meet a series of other forest dwellers, like Bear, Owl or Rabbit, and soon realize that everyone has experienced Fear before. When Kirnis and Tiklis finally return, they learn that even their parents fear something – they fear for their children’s safety. In their second collaborative picture book, literary agent and children’s book author Benas Bėrantas and illustrator Vilija Kvieskaitė tackle fear and how to manage it; they also show that it’s not so bad to experience one’s fears and best to “befriend” them.
