Two years ago, Violet’s father divorced her mother and left their family to hook up with a large-breasted young actress, produce twins, and move to sunny LA. As if that alone wasn’t bad enough, her mom now seems to be date-crazy and tends to choose the worst men possible. So Violet decides to take matters into her own hands. She proves very creative in attempting to discourage undesirable suitors from pursuing her mother, finding her the perfect guy (George Clooney!), and punishing her dad for abandoning them. The hilarious first-person narration with its dry humorous comments relates how the teenage girl feeds her baby half-sisters cat poo or how she subjects a new would-be stepdad to a fierce inquisition. This amusing but also touching novel deals with divorce and step families in a light-hearted way.
