Five children from An City meet by chance in an old residential quarter, where there is an ancient academy and a »Cat Granny« caring for stray cats. Each having their own troubles to deal with, the children become friends and advocate for the same cause: to help Cat Granny remain in her old family home Xingfuli, which is scheduled to be demolished. In order to clear up a common misunderstanding about the old lady, they inform the whole city about her contributions to animal welfare and manage to save the ancient academy and the nearby family home from demolition. Throughout the process, the children also begin to understand what is happening in their own lives. Wu Zhouxing published her first book while she was a university student and is now a representative of a new generation of Chinese children’s literature authors. Her works include »Hong wu xie« (Red dancing shoes) and »Zi yun ying he chang tuan« (Astragalus sinicus choir), which received the 2023 China Book Award (Zhong guo hao shu jiang). [FW, ZX]
