Use your head to save your heels, so the old saying goes. This picture book presents a fitting story. Sebastiana wants to make a tortilla from scratch, but she is missing an egg and must go grocery shopping. On the way, she’s so taken by the tomatoes at the greengrocer (“so red and so round!”) and the bread at the bakery smells so irresistible, that she comes home with these delectables but no egg... Once more she sets out, but returns with shiny olives, juicy oranges, and blue lilies. So the book ends as it began: Sebastiana goes shopping. Her absentmindedness makes her highly likeable and human. This tale of everyday life is illustrated with delicately hued pictures combining coloured-pencil drawing and collage. The open ending makes it especially well-suited for reading out loud, inviting reader and listeners to muse together about what Sebastiana will bring home next time.
