Maranke Rinck’s light-hearted and amusing story is all about animals chasing each other. Using only the seven puzzle shapes of the Chinese Tangram puzzle, Martijn van der Linden illustrates the text by conjuring up a procession of animals in a wide range of poses. The illustrations are very lively, and readers will be amazed at the creative visual potential of Tangram’s limited number of shapes. Children (and also adults) can use the real tangram pieces added to the book to copy the animals and make up their own stories. “Tangramkat” is a surprisingly ingenious and exceptionally beautiful book. In 2015, the author and illustrator duo published “Memorykonijn” (The Other Rabbit), a picture book based on the famous memory game. They were awarded the 2017 Silver Pencil and Silver Brush for “Tangramkat”. The book has already been translated into several languages. The readers of this playful book will be delighted and have a lot of fun.
