Aluo’s dream is to be the postman of Buluo Town. When the orphan boy finally realizes his dream, he finds himself facing the troublesome task of having to deliver a letter to the dark forest that nobody dares to walk into. His devotion to the job takes over, and soon he becomes a secret communicator between the town and the forest. Thus begins a series of marvellous adventures and an amazing friendship between the townspeople and the forest animals. The stories are filled with wild flights of fancy, but they might also be seen as fables that reveal the link between human beings and the other forms of life on Earth, showing how humans can escape anthropocentrism through expanding what they see and feel. The book was selected as one of the “Best Chinese Books of 2016” by the Association of China Book Review and CCTV (China Central Television). Guo Jiangyan teaches Chinese language and literature at a primary school in Jiangsu. Her fairy tales have drawn attention from both readers and critics in recent years.
