In Øyvind Torseter’s newest lark, Mulegutten suddenly finds himself homeless and takes up as a sailor on a ship. Aside from himself, the ship’s crew consists of the captain, whose self-confidence makes up for what he lacks in experience (which is why he takes off at the first hairy situation). After they equip themselves for their expedition with all manner of useful and more often useless stuff, they head out to sea. Like Ulysses, Mulegutten ends up in peril more than once. Thanks to his courage and chutzpah, though, he survives not only a hurricane and “Man overboard!”, but also the hungry giant who wants to cook him in a cauldron. Øyvind Torseter’s epic graphic novel entertains with numerous allusions, two narrative levels – Mulegutten steps in as the narrator and as a character – and naturally the multi-faceted, varied, dynamic visual design in typical Torseter style.
